therapeutic target

Targeted therapy using drugs to prevent the growth and spread of cancer cells. The drug enters the blood stream will be about all the cancer cells in the body. Some people with lung cancer non-small cell that has spread may use this therapy.

type of lung cancer and stage distribution

1. Stages of Lung Cancer Small Cell
Doctors divide lung cancer small cell into 2 stages:
     Limited stage: Cancer is found only on one side of the lung and its immediate network.
     Extensive stage: Cancer is found in breast tissue outside the lungs where the initial point spread. Or cancer is found in a fairly distant organs.

2. Stages of Lung Cancer Non-Small Cell

     Occult stage: Lung cancer cells are found in sputum or water samples obtained from bronchoscopy, but the tumor itself can not be seen in the lungs.
     Stage 0: Cancer cells are found only in the innermost lining of the lungs. The tumor has not grown through this lining. Tumor stage 0 is also called carcinoma in situ. Tumors that there is not an invasive cancer.
     Stage I: Cancer cells are confined to the area of the lungs only. Tissue surrounding the lungs remained normal.
     Stage II: The cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, chest wall, diaphragm, lung lining, or outer layer that surrounds the heart.
     Stage III: The cancer has spread to lymph nodes in the chest area between the heart and lungs. Blood vessels in this area may also be infected. Possible cancer had also spread to the lower part of the neck.
     Stage IV: The cancer has spread to the lungs or other parts of the body and can not be removed surgically.

LUNG CANCER

Lung cancer is a disease with characteristic presence of uncontrolled cell growth in lung tissue. If not treated, the growth of these cells can spread outside of the lungs through a process called metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body. Most cancers that start in lung, known as primary lung cancers, are carcinomas derived from epithelial cells. The main types of lung cancer is SCLC (small cell lung cancer), or also called wheat cell cancer, and NSCLC (lung cancer non-small-cell). The most common symptom is coughing (including coughing up blood), weight loss and shortness of breath.

1. Lung Cancer Non-Small Cell (NSCLC)
NSCLC is the most common type of lung cancer, and not as aggressive as compared with SCLC. NSCLC tend to grow and spread more slowly. When diagnosed early, surgery and / or radiotherapy, chemotherapy, may provide hope for a cure.

2. Lung Cancer-small cell lung (SCLC)
SCLC is a cancer that has a rapid growth rate and rapidly spread to the bloodstream and into the other limb. Often, these cancers are categorized as complex disease when diagnosed. This cancer is usually treated with chemotherapy rather than surgical procedures.

The most common cause of lung cancer is exposure in the long term to tobacco smoke, which causes 80-90% of lung cancers. Non-smoker reaches 10-15% of lung cancer cases, and these cases are usually caused by a combination of genetic factors, radon gas, asbestos, and air pollution including secondhand smoke. Lung cancer can be seen through the chest x-rays and computed tomography (CT scan). diagnosis can be confirmed with a biopsy is usually performed via bronchoscopy procedure or guided by CT. Care and outcomes in the long term depends on the type of cancer, the stage (degree of spread), and the patient's overall health status, measured by the general conditions.

Treatment usually involves surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. NSCLC is usually handled through surgery, whereas SCLC usually responds better to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Overall, 15% of the population in the United States are diagnosed with lung cancer achieving a life expectancy of five years after diagnosis. Globally, cancer lung is the leading cause of cancer death in men and women, and is responsible for 1.38 million deaths each year, until 2008.

2.    The lymph glands also play an important role in eliminating the toxins. A network of tubing brings out the excess waste of the cells from the body and to the final eliminating organs. The appendix, thymus, tonsil, and spleens are major lymphatic glands that help the major organs of the body in cleansing and detoxing.

3.    The kidneys help in the water management of the body. They are the ones that keep the good chemistry of the blood alkaline by eliminating the dissolved acid waste. You can help your kidney to function very well by drinking plenty of water. It is much better if you drink fresh alkaline juices and purified water. You may take ½ ounce of alkaline everyday to see positive results on your body weight.

4.    The lungs are the organs that keep the blood air purified. They allow the oxygen to go directly to the bloodstream. It is also responsible in removing waste gases that are found in every cell of the body. Deep breathing and fresh air is very helpful in keeping the lungs healthy and free from toxins. If you are in the urban area, it is recommended that you find an oxygen rich area where you can perform deep breathing.

5.    The colon is a solid waste management organ in your body. Medical practitioners have found many peolpe that may have an 80-pound mucus and rubber like solid waste that are found on the walls of the colon. Detoxing and cleaning the colon can be a real tough thing to do. However, having a free waste colon can certainly provide you good benefits of having a clean and healthy body.

Quick Tips to Boost Your Metabolism

There are a lot of people who would give a lot to increase their metabolism. Having a high level of metabolism enables one to maintain burn fat and lose weight fast with the least amount of activity. Metabolism is the rate by which the body produces and consumes energy and calories to support life.

There are several factors that affect the metabolism of a person, such as the amount of muscle tissue, the frequency of the meals one consumes, genetics, stress levels, personal diet and activity levels. Metabolism slows done due to the following: loss of muscle because of not enough physical activity, the tendency of the body to cannibalize its own tissue because there is not enough food energy to sustain it, and the decrease of physical activity that comes naturally with old age.

Here are several ways to fire up one's metabolism:

1. Build up on lean, mean body mass. It is only natural that metabolism decreases along with age, but it is possible to counter the effects. The amount of muscle a person has is a very strong determinant in the ability to burn calories and shed fat. So it goes without saying that exercise is essential. Build strength and resistance by working out at least twice a week, preferably with weights. Do easy exercises in between workouts. Simple tasks such as walking the dog and using the stairs in place of the elevator can already take off calories. The key is to match the amount of eating to the amount of activity one has. Here are some guidelines in getting the right exercise:

For strength training

-Increase the amount of repetitions of a particular exercise.
-Add the level of resistance
-Utilize advance exercise techniques if possible

For cardiovascular training

-Insert intervals between exercises
-Perform cross-training and combine the exercises
-Add up on resistance and speed

2. Eat breakfast. A lot of people are ignoring the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Surprisingly, the ones who eat breakfast are thinner than the ones who do not. Metabolism can slow down considerably if breakfast is taken during mid-morning or if one waits until the afternoon to eat.

3. Avoid sugar. Sugar enables the body to store fat. It is recommended that a person consumes food that helps sustain an even level of blood-sugar. Additionally, progressive execerise 2-3 times a week should be in order to stabilize blood sugar.

4. Eat spicy foods. Hot cuisine with peppers can increase metabolism.

5. Sleep more. According to research, it is riskier for people who do not get enough sleep to gain weight. Also, muscles are regenerated during the last couple of hours of slumber.

6. Increase water intake. Water flushes out toxins that are produced whenever the body burns fat. Majority of bodily functions involves water, and lack of water causes the body system's operations to decrease its speed, and produces unneeded stress as a result.

7. Eat smaller meals. It is advisable to consume 4 to 6 small meals that are timed 2 to 3 hours apart.

8. Never skip meals. People tend to skip meals in order to lose weight, which is a big mistake since it slows down metabolism.

9. Plan meals in detail. Always prepare the right amount of food to be consumed at the designated intervals. Do not commit the mistake of eating meals in sporadic patterns.

9. Ditch the stress! Stress, be it physical or emotional, triggers the release of a steroid called cortisol, which decreases metabolism. Also, people tend to eat excessively when stressed.

10. Guzzle up on green tea. It can be used as a substitute for coffee. Tea has the ability to stimulate metabolism, and unlike coffee, it has no undesirable side effects when too much is consumed.

11. Include more energy foods in the diet, such as fruits and vegetables, beans and whole grains.

Achieving the desired body weight is never impossible if one has the determination and patience needed to stabilize the metabolism level, which plays an important role in weight loss. A person needs to realize that eating right and working out is not just a passing fancy, but a way of life.

The Power of Antioxidants for Staying Young

Everyone wants to grow old gracefully.  Some go under the knife to get that youthful look while others opt for a more natural way to maintain that healthful glow.  The way to make peace with age can be found in the types of foods that we eat and the miracle ingredient they contain.

This hidden “miracle” is called antioxidants.  They have graced the pages of magazines, medical journals and every product from hand cream to supplement pills.  But what are antioxidants and what can they do to keep you looking your best?

Antioxidants are substances that fight the aging process that goes on in your body.  They are not produced by the body so to get the benefit of these power-packed substances you must ingest them.  A variety of foods contain antioxidants.

Let’s go back to the beginning.  The body continually replenishes its cells.  Through a process called cellular metabolism, the body produces energy, more cells and repairs any damage.  One by-product of cellular metabolism is unstable molecules called free radicals.

Free radicals are molecules that damage your body.  They are unstable because they are missing an electron.  To get another one and become stable, free radicals will steal electrons from cells.  That theft damages the cells in a variety of ways.

The results are visible and invisible changes to our bodies.  The development of diseases like cancer, diabetes, arthritis and neurological deficiencies may begin to affect you as you age.  Also, thinner skin wrinkles and brittle bones are a problem.  Free radicals enter our body from outside sources as well: cigarette smoke, radiation and the sun’s UV rays.  The more free radicals we encounter, the greater the damage that can be done.

Antioxidants have been shown to be of great help in the free radical problem.  Antioxidant substances combine with free radicals and neutralize them.  Once they are neutralized, they can no longer do any damage.  Scientists don’t have any idea of a recommended daily dose of antioxidants to correct free radical damage and the diseases that come with age, but they do know that eating foods rich in antioxidants makes a huge difference in how we live.

Where do you find antioxidants?  They are all around us.  Look no further than your local farmer’s market or produce aisle in the grocery store.  Fruits and vegetables contain the principle sources of antioxidants.

Examples of antioxidants include:
* Vitamin C
* Vitamin A
* Vitamin E
* Lutein
* Lycopene
* Beta-carotene

Certain minerals like zinc and selenium also function in the body.  They are not antioxidants but they boost the immune system to fight against free radical damage.

Antioxidants are also found in nuts, legumes, cold water fish, seafood and red meat.  So, eating a varied diet of fruits, vegetables and the foods just named will increase the amount of antioxidants in your system and help reduce the incidence of disease.  Eating fruits and vegetables in their natural form instead of juices brings the benefit of other nutrients found in the foods.  Juices also contain a lot of sugar that is not needed by your body.

Food does more than stave off hunger.  Natural substances found there can cause us to live longer and stay free of disease as we age.

Benefits of Whey Protein

In recent years, the subject of whey protein has come up often in health discussions. Know what whey protein is, its possible benefits and side effects and more as you read on.
What is Whey Protein
Whey protein is actually a term used to describe a group of globular proteins that can be separated from whey. When cow’s milk is used to manufacture cheese, it also leads to the production of whey, which may or may not be discarded. It is a mixture of lactoglobulin, alpha-lactalbumin and serum albumin.
Similar to protein found in egg white, whey protein can also be irreversibly changed by heat. When made part of the pasteurization process, it becomes less bio-active. If not, whey protein naturally becomes bio-active which basically means it contains a high concentration of cysteine and consequently glutathione, an antioxidant that is essential to improved fitness and health.
Bio-active whey protein is an active source for protein but exposure to extreme heat can easily reduce the amount of cysteine in it without affecting its protein content and basic food value. Native whey protein
What Makes It Good for the Body
Because whey protein contains an inordinate amount of essential and non-essential acids, it frequently plays a prominent role in most low-carb and high-protein diets. Another reason for this is because of its low content of fats and of course, carbohydrates.

Why Pregnant Mothers Love Whey Protein
A number of OBs have advised their gravid patients to increase their intake of whey protein because it will provide the basic amount of amino acids needed by the growing infants inside their bodies. An increased intake of whey protein will naturally improve and speed up the development of the baby. Also, increased intake of whey protein will indirectly improve the immune system of the baby. In its growing stages, it is highly vulnerable to different types of illnesses. With the help of whey protein, it grow faster and better and more equipped to defend itself against any health complication.

Whey Protein for Bodybuilding Enthusiasts
For bodybuilders, muscle growth is everything and that’s why they love whey protein so much. Studies have satisfactorily proven that whey protein can lead to acceleration of muscle development. This is welcomed news especially for bodybuilders who are only a few weeks away from the date of competition but is still in high need of muscle growth.

How it Helps Athletes Busy Recovering from Old Injuries
In this case, whey protein saves the day once more because it can be used to supplement diets of individuals who are suffering from compromised immune systems. Basically, it helps athletes heal faster and feel better.

A Weapon against Degenerative Diseases
Although you can’t truly say that any disease is less painful than the other if both have life-altering consequences, it is an inarguable fact however that degenerative diseases are one of the worst health complications to suffer from. These illnesses tend to subject people to a protracted form of suffering and with symptoms with increasing levels of severity. They commonly affect three systems in particular: the nervous system, the muscular system and the skeletal system.

Although rarely curable, degenerative diseases can be treated through chemotherapy, surgical operations and the proper diet. Whey protein is often a part of this diet because of its rehabilitative benefits especially when it comes to muscle growth. Cancer, diabetes and AIDS have symptoms that causes muscle strength and growth to deteriorate – an undesirable effect that can be combated with increased intake of whey protein.

Where to Buy Whey Protein
Are you sufficiently convinced of the benefits of whey protein then? If so, you should be happy to know that you can avail of commercial whey protein product in most supermarkets and specialty food stores specializing in healthy food.

Ending with a Warning
Whey protein is good for the body – no doubt about it – but too much consumption of anything is never beneficial. Too much intake of whey protein can lead to unnecessary complications of your liver. And need we remind you that the liver is the next most important organ in the body? Lastly, lactose intolerant individuals must consume whey protein isolate rather than the normal variety as the former has less lactose content.

Mental Health and Traits

When people think of mental health, they think of mental disabilities or disorders. However, mental illnesses include traits, disorders, personality, tendencies and so forth. For example, psychopathic patients may have a personality disorder, psychopathic tendencies or traits. The level of disorder differs in the sense traits are less severe than disorder and tendencies. Often people with these types of disabilities have other diagnostic disadvantages beneath the surface. Let’s look at a patient with psychopathic traits. This person is less likely to kill than the person in the next seat with psychopathic tendencies or personality. Although the symptoms are slightly different, neither diagnosed patient with these types of diagnoses should be excused from illustrating violent behaviors. In fact, not everyone with psychopathic disabilities kill. Therefore, to understand mental health and traits, you must understand the entirety of the diagnoses. Traits are distinguishing qualities of a single diagnose. The traits may include similar symptoms illustrated by a full-blown psychopathic, yet not as severe. For example, psychopathic individuals often enjoy starting fires. A patient with psychopathic traits may not start fires, but wish they had the advantage of doing so. These types will often think about the consequences ahead of time, while psychopathic patients will not. The downside of psychopathic traits is that if left untreated this person can break off into tendencies and/or personality disorders, which means danger is lurking closer. Psychopathic like everyone else has many sides to their personality, including a bossy side, adventurous side, normal side, eccentric side, and so forth. Psychopathic patients can play up to a person and that person will see a friendly side that leads him or she to believe the person is a so-called normal. Yet when the person goes home, he or she engages in abnormal behaviors including pornographic materials, obsessive music, and studying the law in an effort to find a loophole to get away with crime. This person might even go home and calculate a strategy to harm the individual that thought he or she was normal. What we are looking at then is a psychopathic individual with the traits leading to tendencies to kill. We are looking at a personality disorder that is so entangled in a web of illusionary thinking. Psychopathic often believe and think differently from the normal society. Some of their thinking is justifiable however; their behaviors make it difficult for others to listen. We a psychopathic thinks killing will relieve his or her pain and suffering, this is obviously an unjustifiable thought. However, if a psychopathic believes that the system is a failure, then he or she is on track in their thinking, since history has proved his or her claims. According to statistics, there are three types of personality disorders that have urges to kill or harm other individuals. Scientist claims that 4 percent consist of Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD), 1 percent Psychopathic, and 3 percent Sociopath. Now the common denominator that the three shares is neither personality type does not have regards for other peoples rights, nor do they show remorse when they harm another. All three of these types of personality often walk around with a deranged look on their face, and all three are deadly. The difference then is not all sociopaths kill and often this type of personality has fewer symptoms than a psychopathic personality type. While the statistics claim there is only 1 percent psychopathic in the world, the statistic are blown off the chart as more of these personality types present them self to society. Many of the psychopathic also have antisocial personality disorders, while antisocial personality patients do not always have psychopathic. However, they may illustrate traits, since like psychopathic, antisocial symptoms include fire starting, bed wetting, harm to animals and people. As you can see understanding traits, personality and tendencies if vital since confusing, one or the other can lead to disaster. The disadvantage of the three listed diagnoses is there is rarely a solution for ending the ongoing mental illnesses. This means that therapy often does more harm than good, and that most of the patients with these diagnoses are destined to crime. Studies are in constant labor working to find answers, but the more they search it seems with these diagnoses that the further that head backwards. The many illusions in the mental mind is often boggling, but everyone has hope.

Trauma and Mental Health

Trauma is a result of battering, witnesses a horrible attacks, enduring an accident/incident, terrorist, and so on. Anytime a person is subject to violence, it brings forth trauma, whether it is in small doses or extreme doses. Posttraumatic Stress Disorders (war shock) was only linked to combat, but recently mental health experts are finding that more individuals are subject to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Generally, people that suffer Multiple Personality Disorder often have Posttraumatic Stress Disorder underneath. It is often difficult to detect this since people with Multiple Personality Disorder alters or changes personalities. Some of the personality types may not illustrate any symptoms of mental illness, while others may illustrate extreme symptoms. Most patients with Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) were subject to extreme abuse as a child, which means these people suffered severe trauma from the get-go. Now, the people that do not have Multiple Personality would have to undergo traumatic experiences, or witness traumatic attacks. It depends on the mind but some people can witness an accident and it won’t faze them, while others can witness a similar accident and it could lead them into PTSD symptoms. This type of mind is often suffering with other problems, and the problem has not been detected, while the person that was not affected probably had excellent coping skills. Most likely, the person affected survived traumas long before this accident took place. Trauma affects us all differently and some more than others. When a person endures trauma it is essential to get help immediately, since trauma often plays with the mind. A person will often endure sleepless nights, nightmares, anxiety and panic attacks and so forth. The issues bring forth more complications since the nerves are tortured and the person might resort to alcohol or drugs to relieve the symptoms. Flashbacks are common with trauma patients, and flashbacks can be dangerous since the person looses contact with the here and now. Rather the patient will go back in time to the event or one of the series of events that caused the trauma and they often stay stuck there for a few minutes or longer. If someone is around them and that person does not have understanding other complications can occur. Patients with Posttraumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) are often treated with various medications, including Trazadone. Trazadone is often great for relieving stress, reducing night sweats, and nightmares, as well as other symptoms of posttraumatic stress. Another great solution for trauma patients is to take Natural Herbs, including Mental Alert remedies, Multiple Vitamins, especially saturated with B-Complex, and so on. The natural herbs are great, and if you are seated on a healthy diet this too is helpful to reduce posttraumatic stress symptoms. The more you take care of you, the more your symptoms will run the other way. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is nothing to play around with, since the symptoms are ‘combat.’ In other words, when you endure an attack, the person often feels like he or she is on a battlefield and everyone around them is the enemy. The symptoms leave no room for concentration, understanding, and even affect the person’s ability to hear what is said to him or her. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder starts out with smaller symptoms and gradually works up to deeper symptoms if not treated. The sleepless nights alone leave the patient open for triggers. Triggers are sound, smell, voices, taste, and so forth. There are many elements in society that can trigger an episode of Posttraumatic Stress. It is also important to minimize your entertainment habits. If possible, avoid movies that will startle, fright, or trigger your symptoms. Movies that are animated or comedies are great sources of entertainment that will spare you a posttraumatic stress attack. You want to remember that when the nervous system is affected then so is the body and mind. In other words, the more attacks you have from posttraumatic stress put your heart and body at risk of physical illnesses. Finally, it is important to seek help, take care of yourself, and avoid any element in society that will trigger your symptoms, including people if necessary. Isolation in one form is not as bad as suffering posttraumatic stress symptoms. Postpartum Depression is another issue many suffer, however women are the target of this diagnose.
