Placenta Previa

Placenta previa is one of the main causes of bleeding during pregnancy or during labor. Bleeding during pregnancy and childbirth is one of the emergency because it can endanger the mother. So, need special handling during pregnancy and childbirth in the case of placenta previa.

Placenta or umbilical is a part which attached to the uterine wall and serves as a supplier of oxygen and nutrients to the fetus in the womb. Normally, the placenta attaches to the side or top of the uterus. However, in cases of placenta previa, the placenta is attached to the bottom so it covers part or all of the cervix. Closing of the birth canal does not allow babies delivered vaginally, because the baby will be hit by a placental rupture and cause bleeding. Cesarean delivery (sc) is a way to prevent and minimize bleeding.

In early pregnancy, the placenta is located on the bottom wall of the uterus. With increasing gestational age, the fetus and the uterus will be enlarged. The size of the enlarged uterus makes placenta interested and moved to the top of the wall of the uterus. If pregnancy has entered the third trimester, but the placenta remains in the lower part of the cervix, a condition called the Previa.

Placenta Previa Conditions

There are three conditions of Placenta Previa, namely:

     Marginal Placenta Previa
Placenta approaching the outskirts of the cervix but not covering the cervix.
     Placenta Previa Partialis
     Palsenta partially covers the cervix.
     Placenta Previa Totalis
The placenta covers the entire cervix.

Causes of Placenta Previa

Several factors trigger Placenta Previa is:

The shape of the uterus is not normal
The number of previous pregnancies were pretty much
     smoke
     Pregnancy in old age
Never done kurtase or cesarean surgery that will leave marks on the side or top of the wall of the uterus so that the placenta could not stick in place.

Symptoms of Placenta Previa

Symptoms of placenta previa is bleeding at the end of the second trimester or early third trimester. However, there is also no bleeding until near birth. The amount of blood ejected varied, ranging from a trickle of blood to blood such as during menstruation.

Handling Placenta Previa

To check the exact position and depth of the attachment of the placenta, a regular gynecologist menggunalan ultrasonography (USG) which can show the situation in the womb. Knowing this will help the doctor to estimate how much bleeding may occur in order to look for the best solution.

If there is bleeding, then the doctor will see if the baby should be born or bleeding can still be overcome. As much as possible, if bleeding occurs when the uterus has not aged 36 weeks, will be made to address the bleeding so that pregnancy can be continued until the fetus is old enough to be born, more or less to the content of 36-week-old.

Pregnant women with placenta previa do not allow for a normal delivery as it will lead to severe bleeding. If a mother has been known to Placenta Previa, to prevent bleeding are:

     Reduced physical activity
Strenuous physical activity can trigger contractions.
     bed rest
If it bleed repeatedly and in large quantities, it is suggested that the total bed rest to prevent contractions and bleeding more.
     pelvic rest
That does not do things that could potentially menyebabkna vaginal bleeding. For example, do not have sex, use a vaginal cleaning fluid or a specific tool, using the pads of the vagina.

In the case of placenta previa who have severe, sufferers must stay in the hospital so the doctor easy to control. Handling will be done the doctor was giving drugs to prevent contraction and drugs to accelerate fetal lung maturation for the possibility if the fetus must be born.

Since there may be up to a contraction, then contact your doctor immediately if you experience abdominal contraction (stomach feels very hard) or out bloodstains. Because it is early signs of dangerous contraction. Immediately contact your doctor and to the hospital to receive proper treatment.
